Did satan sneak up and try to kill Jesus prematurely? Were they ever in real danger?
Of course not. What a preposterous notion!
Jesus knew full well what was about to happen when they set out across the lake. He knew a storm was brewing, He knew they would be tested. He was not surprised, it was all in the plan. It was part of the lesson. He even got a nap out of it!
You see, God leads us into situations for our benefit. He guides our life into and out of storms FOR us. He uses those storms in life to expose our unbelief, to build our faith, to exercise and strengthen our resolve. Every storm faced means we can grow to be able to conquer larger storms later. It is a good thing!
How does one get physically stronger? By exercise and challenge, doing things we can barely do until we attain strength.
How does one get mentally stronger? By exercising the mind, solving hard problems, puzzles, stretching the understanding.
How does one get spiritually strong? Storms! Exercising our faith and stretching our hearts.
Yes, Jesus knew the storm was coming. As He laid down for that nap, He knew a test was coming. Yet he didn’t prevent the storm, He looked forward to it. Challenges are good!
Why do we fear storms in our life? It is the storms that draw us closer to God. Is that not our prayer? It is the storms that give opportunity to shine God’s light and peace around. What a privilege!
Perhaps instead of fearfully and timidly watching the weather to avoid storms. Perhaps we should run boldly forward wherever God leads… Even into the storm! Perhaps we should stand boldly in the bow facing the wind and the waves with “blessed assurance, Jesus is mine”. Perhaps we are called to walk through a storm, not avoid it, not calm it, but ignore it! We have work to do! What, shall we let a little storm interfere with our divine calling? NO!
Either Jesus is God or not.
Either we trust Him or not
